Students Observe Arbor Day & Plant a Tree
May 2003, Alstead, New Hampshire

Thanks to the generous support of Granite State Electric, New Hampshire Forest and Lands, Asplundth, and the Town of Alstead, 137 middle school students learned the story of Arbor Day by planting a tree next to the flag pole in front of the school. The tree is a Japanese lilac since the lilac is the New Hampshire state flower. In addition, every student took home a Japanese lilac tree seedling, after receiving instructions on its care, and pledging to honor those directions.

Both the Arbor Bear and TFG Executive Director Joel McCarty were on hand to lend support; neither made a speech.
